General Settings in the Backstory Admin Panel that lets administrators customize how each environment is identified and displayed. Organizations that use multiple environments, such as a Sandbox for testing and a Production environment for live data, can use these settings to help users tell them apart. Keeping these values clear and consistent reduces confusion for anyone who accesses more than one environment.
Note: Managing General Settings requires a Backstory Administrator account.
Environment Display Name
The Environment Display Name is a label that helps users recognize which environment they are working in. Giving each environment a clear name, such as "Production" or "Sandbox," makes it easier to avoid working in the wrong one.

Company Identification Value
The Company Identification value is a unique, case-sensitive identifier that users enter on the login page to access a specific environment. It only appears on the login page when a user has access to more than one environment. If a user with access to multiple environments tries to sign in with only an email address, they will be redirected to enter a Company Identification value before proceeding.

Frequently Asked Questions
When do changes to these fields take effect?
Changes take effect on the next login. Users who are already logged in will not see the update until they log out and log back in.
What makes a good Company Identification value?
Choose something short, memorable, and descriptive. Common conventions include values like customername_prod for production environments and customername_sbx for sandbox environments. The value is case-sensitive and must be unique across environments.
Do I need to notify my users after making changes?
Yes. If you update the Company Identification value, users will need to know the new value to log in to that environment. Communicate the change to your team before saving.
Can I change these values more than once?
Yes, both fields can be updated at any time by an administrator. Be sure to inform your users whenever the Company Identification value changes so they can continue to access the correct environment.
What happens if a user with access to multiple environments does not enter a Company Identification value?
If a user with access to multiple environments attempts to sign in with only an email address, they will be redirected to enter a Company Identification value before they can access the web app.
